Paragliding Courses
We realise that there is a big hole in
pilot training after the CPC rating.
Our paragliding courses aim
to plug that gap and help you progress safely in your flying
career.
2008 will be our 12th year running paragliding courses using the same formula of safe, professional & fun instruction.
The Courses
Intro to Alpine Flying - Advanced Thermalling - Intro to XC - Bob Drury XC Clinics
SIV and Pilotage - SIV Weekends - SIV + XC weeks
The paragliding courses are run separately for different levels. So don't worry about keeping up with the sky gods, and the sky gods won't be held back. Tuition is individually focused and designed to improve technique whilst building confidence, all tasks are tailored to your specific experience and ability. Give us a call if you aren't sure which course is for you.
There are very few English instructors who have the experience or ability to teach Mountain flying and who are insured to work outside the UK. For these reasons we have decided to integrate with Les Passagers du Vent. They are one of the best known and longest established schools in France and have been working with us for 11 years. This means that all courses* will be run by fully insured, professional instructors who have a state registered diploma. To see how much harder it is to become and instructor in France than the UK have a look at our learning to paraglide page
Pilots all fly with radios, and instruction includes pre-flight
briefings, in-flight radio instruction, debriefing sessions and
lectures. Transport to sites and retrieves are provided. All
courses have a maximum of 8 students.
Courses run Sunday to Friday inclusive, with Saturday being
changeover day. The following courses are for Club Pilots minimum.
Beginners check out the "Learn To Paraglide" page.
* - with the exception of Bob Drury's XC courses.
Introduction to Alpine Paragliding
For newly qualified/low airtime paraglider Club pilots and newcomers to mountain flying, wanting a structured introduction to alpine flying and to gain experience. The course includes alpine site and weather assessment and basic thermal work, and produces a more active flying style, improving confidence with quality flying time. You will learn how to take off safely on alpine sites in light wind & thermic conditions and how to approach an alpine landing field without getting caught out by valley winds.
Advanced Thermalling
For pilots who already have some mountain experience and hours under
their belts and wanting to build on this. With two experienced
instructors, one in the air to follow and one on the ground to help get
you away, it's an ideal way to progress.
The course concentrates on how to climb more efficiently, where to look for thermals and how not to loose them once you've found one. .
Intro to Alpine XC
For experienced pilots, a cross country course in the form of 'follow the leader' with one of us coaching from the air by radio. This course gives you the chance to follow experienced pilots around the region and to find out what they're thinking in real time. You must be able to take off and land out unassisted and of course core a thermal, although we will be watching your technique and offering advice.
